Ato, RichmondHill

Ato’s 15-course omakase offers an unforgettable dining experience that’s as thoughtful as it is delicious, with a reasonable price for the quality. Every dish feels like a masterclass in precision, showcasing not just fresh ingredients but also the skill behind their preparation. The fatty tuna, or otoro, was a standout—melt-in-your-mouth tender, rich, and luxurious. Its balance of sweetness and delicate fattiness made for a perfect bite that lingered just the right amount on the palate. Equally impressive was the saltwater eel, or unagi, which had a wonderful smoky flavor from the grill and a perfect char. The eel’s tender texture paired beautifully with the sweet, sticky eel sauce, creating a satisfying yet refined bite that wasn’t too greasy.

But the true showstopper came at the end with the matcha pudding. This dessert was absolutely sublime—velvety, creamy, and not overly sweet. The rich flavor of the matcha came through beautifully, with a smooth texture that was both indulgent and refreshing. The slight bitterness of the matcha balanced the creaminess of the pudding, making it the perfect, nuanced finish to a flawless meal.

The pacing of the courses was spot on, with each dish arriving at just the right moment, allowing time to savor the flavors. Service was attentive without being intrusive, creating a relaxed atmosphere where the food could shine. For anyone seeking a top-tier sushi experience without the steep price tag, Ato is an exceptional choice. Highly recommended.
